Each year, D118 Band Boosters awards two $500 scholarship to seniors in the WHS Band Program.
All graduating senior band students are encouraged to apply.
Qualifications:
- Must be a senior at Wauconda High School
- Must be currently enrolled in the band music program at Wauconda High School and maintain a grade of B or higher for both semesters of band senior year.
- Must have been a participant in WHS band for all four years of high school.
- Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or better
- Will be attending an educational/technical institution in Fall 2022
To be considered for the Band Boosters Scholarship, students must complete an application describing their involvement in the WHS band program and any music-related activities outside of school, answer two essay questions, and submit a letter of recommendation from a WHS faculty member or non-family reference.
Applications are submitted electronically to WHS band directors and shared only with one member of the Band Boosters board and three independent reviewers with no current ties to the WHS band program. The BB board member must not have a student that is applying for the scholarship, and must black out the names of the applicants before sharing with the team of independent reviewers to ensure anonymity.
The team of reviewers rates each applicant on the following criteria:
- Band Involvement (30 points)
- Leadership (15 points)
- Outside of School Musical Activities (5 points)
- Essay Questions (25 points)
- Recommendation Letter (15 points)
- Neatness, Completeness, Etc. (10 points)
Applicants will end up with a score between 0 and 100 from each reviewer, which are then combined to reach a composite score (maximum 300 points). The students with the two highest composite scores will be awarded the scholarships.
